OUR HISTORY
This organization was born from a desire to mobilize fellow Pompton Lakes High School students to support local cat rescue efforts in a creative and engaging way amidst a socially complex school environment.
To achieve this, Shadow Tail co-initiated Kitty Krew, an innovative “underground” social club, with the help of Silver Whiskers, creating a professional website and recruiting members through informative flyers, a regular hand-delivered newsletter, and an eye-catching cat-oriented costume theme. Our members collected donations for local animal rescues from students and staff as well as held a number of in-person volunteering events with those rescues. Kitty Krew built a sizable network of volunteers, eventually appointing executive members and delegating responsibilities to those executives in order to ensure effective management of member information as well as encourage active participation from our member base. These efforts resulted in our organization gaining significant attention, with the costume theme and social buzz exploding into a school-wide phenomenon that invigorated and mobilized students and teachers alike. All of this was achieved over an academic year period, entirely independently from any school administrative intervention or influence. The project later led to paid positions for our members at the local BASS Animal Rescue.
Our movement eventually evolved into a dedicated volunteer e-network available to be called upon to further contribute to local animal rescue efforts, which still operates to this day.
This project exemplifies our executive members' natural entrepreneurial spirit, robust leadership aptitude, strength in cooperation, effective delegation, value of community engagement, devotion to animal welfare, and ability to inspire passionate collective action.
